It Takes A Village And We’re Building One Together

Why Village Roots Was Created

Village Roots began with a simple feeling many families know well- a desire for more community.

We saw a need for a place where families choosing home-based education could come together in meaningful ways. A place where children could build friendships, learn through play, creativity, exploration, and hands-on experiences, and feel safe being fully themselves.

As our children grew, so did the need. We noticed many play-based opportunities ended around early childhood, leaving families searching for developmentally appropriate, relationship-centered spaces where older children could continue learning, growing, and building community. Village Roots was created to grow alongside children- from early childhood through middle school.

Today, Village Roots is a play-based, cooperative microschool and enrichment community for home-based learners ages 3–14, where children, families, and educators learn and grow together through connection, collaboration, curiosity, and belonging.

Our Educational Philosophy

At Village Roots, we believe children learn best when they feel safe, connected, and free to be themselves. We honor each child’s unique pace of development and create meaningful opportunities for learning through play, exploration, creativity, collaboration, and real-world experiences.

As a cooperative learning community, families and educators work together to support children as capable participants in their own growth- nurturing confidence, curiosity, belonging, and student voice.

🌿 Connect

We foster meaningful relationships and emotional safety so children feel known, respected, and supported. Learning begins with connection – to self, others, and community.

🎨 Create

Through play, exploration, projects, and hands-on experiences, children are encouraged to imagine, experiment, problem-solve, and express themselves in meaningful ways.

🤝 Collaborate

Learning is strengthened through community. Children, families, and educators work together – sharing ideas, supporting growth, and learning alongside one another.

Built By Parents, For Families

Village Roots began with a simple question:
What if we created the kind of learning community we wished existed for our own children?

Together, our founders built a place where children can feel safe, known, and free to learn through play, creativity, collaboration, and meaningful relationships.

Our Vision

To create an emotionally healthy environment where children feel safe, known, and respected - guided by skilled educators and supported through developmentally appropriate experiences that nurture confidence, curiosity, connection, and belonging.

Our Mission

To embrace the philosophy that it takes a village not just to raise a child, but to nurture a family - fostering a supportive community through cooperative education, homeschool enrichment, and meaningful opportunities for children and families to learn, grow, and belong together.
