We are here to help parents raise Kind and Confident children

Establishing a
Cooperative: Fostering Inclusive Learning Spaces

In creating our cooperative microschool, our primary aim was to cultivate a nurturing environment where every individual feels valued and respected.

Observing a gap in the educational landscape, we noticed an abundance of play-based preschools, yet scarce opportunities for play-based learning among children aged 6 and older. The absence of affordable, secular, drop-off schooling options for this age group propelled us to address this unmet need within our community.

Furthermore, we sought to provide tangible support to parents by alleviating some of their responsibilities. Through our programs, parents can rest assured that their children are not only cherished and respected but are also actively engaged in learning, fostering friendships, and enjoying themselves in a safe and enriching environment.

Meet the Founders of Village Roots Collective!

We are thrilled to introduce the remarkable women behind Village Roots Collective! Their dedication, hard work, and vision have been the driving forces in creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered to thrive together.

Their tireless efforts have not only shaped our co-op into a place we cherish but have also fostered meaningful connections among our families and provided our children with enriching relationships. We are deeply grateful for their commitment and passion, which have made Village Roots Collective a truly special community.

Vision

We are a play based, cooperative microschool with programs for children 3-14 years old that prioritizes time outdoors. Our skilled educators design developmentally appropriate experiences, supported by parent volunteers. At the heart of our philosophy lies the belief that each child is unique. We honor their individual pace of development, providing a secure and nurturing environment. Children can trust they belong and their thoughts, emotions, and ideas are welcomed and respected in an emotionally healthy environment.

Mission

Our mission is to embrace the philosophy that it takes a village not just to raise a child, but to nurture a family.  Our mission is to foster a supportive community through cooperative early childhood education, homeschooling support and enriching social opportunities.  We are dedicated to cultivating an inclusive environment where every family thrives together.

Meet the Teachers of Village Roots Collective!

Co-Founder, Educational Director & Teacher

Maples (Ages 3-5)

Hi! I’m Mrs. K, and I’m so excited to learn, grow, and explore alongside your child at Village Roots Collective! I call Mooresville home, with my husband, Joe, our two kiddos, two cats, and two very fluffy Great Pyrenees. There’s always a little magic and a lot of love at home. I’ve been part of the co-op world since 2013 and began teaching in 2018 after working in Special Education with children of all abilities. I love creating an inclusive, joyful classroom where curiosity and connection thrive. When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me grounding myself in nature, sipping sweet tea, surrounded by sunflowers, tie-dye, gnomes, and a touch of Disney wonder. I can’t wait for an amazing year together!

Redwoods / Willows (Ages 5-11)

Hello! My name is Ali Hill, and I am so excited to be joining this incredible and inspiring team at Village Roots Collective. I am originally from Columbus, IN but I have been living in Greenwood for the past 8 years with my husband, Lucas, and our dog, Winston! I have been teaching at the elementary level for the past 10 years in grades 2, 3, and 5. I have been around teachers my whole life. My grandfather was a high school English teacher, my mother is a teacher’s assistant, and 3 of my cousins are teachers. It must be something that runs in the family!

Catawna “Ms. Cat” Silvers

Teacher

Redwoods (Ages 5-8)

Hi, I’m Ms. Cat! I began working in education in 2019 and have loved supporting children’s learning ever since. I earned my degree in Elementary Education from IUPUI in 2023 and am excited to be part of a cooperative learning community that values curiosity, connection, and play-based learning.

My passion for working with children started early—first as a big sister and later through years of babysitting and tutoring middle school students. These experiences shaped my love for teaching and for supporting children as they grow in confidence and independence.

I grew up in Whiteland and currently live in Greenwood with my daughter, Juniper, and our dog, Lucky. Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time outdoors, exploring local parks and trails, and being with my family. I’m looking forward to a year of learning, exploration, and meaningful connections at Village Roots Collective.
